Pictures of my Summer Mentorship

So what I did during my summer mentorship was observing one of the Chino Community Theater's summer plays, "To Kill a Mocking Bird". I came to watch their rehearsal every evening about two and a half weeks. I'm surprise of how much the actors and the Director, Toni Lynd; who was my mentor, put so much effort to the play in a short time, since they started in the second week of July. They only had a few stage people that were only working on the stage lights, so they had to have most of he actors build the sets for the play. The actors also brought their own props that they can use for the play while their families donated costumes for them.  Even though I only observe the actors and stage people's work, I did get to interact with some of the actors and they were really nice to me and they ask me about my self. I did ask couple of questions to my mentor of how they are able to pull it through in the short time and my mentor told me is because everyone in the play works as a team and try to reach the same goal, because if one person lets them down, they let down the whole play down. So yeah, that is what I did during my summer mentorship and I'm sure going to miss the people I met during their rehearsals.

Here are some of the pictures I took at their reshearsals.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1.  Who do you plan to interview?  Why?

The person I am planning to interview is Alexandra Hule. She is in charge of most of Chino Community Theater and works with a lot of theater directors, stage crews, and theater actors. She also the one who help me get my summer mentorship with one of the directors name Toni Lynd who was working on a summer play call "Killing of a Mocking bird" and she is still helping me to get a mentor at the Chino Community Theater.

2.  You have to ask 5 questions.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?

The additional questions I am planning to ask my first interview is:

How long have you been working at the Chino Community Theater?

What made you become interested in working at a community theater?

How is it like working with the actors during a production?

How many plays have you been involved?

What is your most favorite thing about the Chino Community Theater?

What is the most significant experience that you had at the Chino Community Theater and why?

Blog 3: Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

1.  List your topic here:

Theater Acting

2.  What do you plan to do this year to show growth in each of the ESLRs?

  • I-Poly Citizens: I plan to become more responsible and helpful through my mentorship. This means I will need to contribute as a team member and work well with others in a cast and tech team in order get things done for a production of a play. With this, its going to help me to become a better person when it comes to helping out with others that are in need of help and hopefully get things done as a team.

  • Effective Learner: I plan to learn more effectively through my senior topic. I will ask questions and help out with what ever my mentorship needs me to do. This can give me more experience of my topic and hopefully to succeed of my project. With this skills that I will learn, its going to help me learn effectively throughout college and help me to pursuit a career to become a high school teacher.

  • Effective User of Technology: I plan to use the technology as an advantage to find research through out the website. Its going to help me find articles or find other resources, like books, to get better understanding of my topic. And also, I plan to use the technology more often to check blogs, emails, and able to ask question to teachers and peers if I need help.

  • Effective Communicator: I plan to communicate better with others in my senior topic because the topic I chose involves a lot of communication with others who are working on a play, and with out it, the whole production of the play can fall apart. And also, I plan to ask more question to the teachers to get a better understanding of the senior topic so I can present my presentation better. With the skills that I will gain from, Its going to help me to communicate better to my peers and hopefully have everyone understand what I am saying.

Literal:

1. (Know) Log of specific hours with a total and a description of your duties

Summer Mentorship Log

2. Contact Name & Number

Toni Lynd
(909)-655-3938

3. (Need to know) What questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience?  List them.

What do I need to do that will count towards my mentorship for my topic?

How come the extra hours of mentorship we do during the summer don't count towards our mentorship hours for the school year?

Will we be able to use our experience from our summer mentorship as our sources for our senior presentation by the end of the year?

Interpretive

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?

What I learned from my mentorship was that you have to make a commitment to the person that you are getting mentorship from to show that you are responsible for being there to help them with whatever they need you to do, and to let them know if you are unable to meet them on a particular day. If you don't do this, you're not just letting your mentor down but you're also letting yourself down for not fulfilling your commitment.

What I also learned is that it is easier to learn of your senior topic by working with someone who has experience with that topic. You will get more information from an expert on your topic than trying to research the right info through books, newspaper, and the internet.

5. How did what you did help you choose a topic?  Please explain.

While doing this summer mentorship of my topic, theater acting, I have discover that there is a lot more information about theater acting then I thought. If I continue to do this, it's not only going to help improve my acting skills but it's going to help me to improve my social skill with others, since I don't really socialize with other people and hopefully through this topic my skills will improve. I really hope that through this topic I can improve my skills in both acting and socializing, making me a better person that in hopes will succeed in the future.
